Passive Modalities

At Premier Injury Clinics of DFW, we offer a wide range of chiropractic services that aim to address your health concerns. If you have been involved in any type of accident, there’s a good chance you will need medical assistance in order to address the pain and other symptoms you are suffering from. Our experienced doctors have been treating accident injuries for many years, which has given us the tools to help accident victims just like you. We have five clinics located throughout Texas, allowing you to choose the one that is most convenient for you.

There are several different types of services offered within the chiropractic field, including what we refer to as passive modalities. Passive modalities are therapies that are typically performed on you while you lie on a table or sit in a chair. The most common passive modalities offered at Premier Injury Clinics of DFW are EMS / IF, massage therapy, stretching, electrotherapy, and heat and cold therapy. When it comes to addressing injuries sustained from accidents, we may suggest using multiple modalities in order to ensure we get at the root of the problem and effectively alleviate your symptoms. These more passive therapies can be performed over time, slowly working to heal the body without causing further injury. Depending on the type and extent of your injuries, passive modalities may be used either before or after physical exercise.

Passive Modalities Offered at Our Clinics

The goal of any rehabilitation program is to return function and activity to the injured area. For example, if you suffer whiplash in a car accident or sustain a spinal cord injury in a boating accident, your Premier Injury chiropractor may suggest the use of massage therapy and electrotherapy in order to alleviate your symptoms while strengthening those areas. In most cases, we use passive modalities in conjunction with other, more active forms of therapy.

Premier Injury Clinics of DFW is different than other clinics because we always have two doctors on staff at each of our clinics. This allows us to provide you with specialized, personalized care following an accident or injury. We also offer complimentary transportation, should you need it, and extended hours Monday through Saturday. Some of the passive modalities you may receive at any of our five area clinics include:

  • EMS / IF: Electronic Muscle Stimulators are used for the healing process. An EMS machine assists in pain relief, ease stiffness in the back or joints, reduce edema and spams.
  • Massage: There are many different types of massages. This allows your doctor to use different techniques based on your needs. Massage therapy works to relieve muscle tension, spasms, inflammation, aches, stiffness, and pain, all while increasing blood flow.
  • Neuromuscular Re-education (Therapy Ball / Wobble Board): Can help achieve various goals which includes, improving movement, balance, coordination, kinesthetic sense, posture and/or proprioception for sitting and/or standing activities.
  • Hot / Cold Therapy: Using heat and ice together is a very common passive modality that we often use in our clinics. Heat draws blood into tissues, which can reduce muscle spasms and relax tight muscles, all while relieving pain. Cold, on the other hand, slows circulation in order to reduce inflammation, muscle spasms, and pain.
  • Mechanical Traction / IST: Intersegmental traction (IST) is aimed to increase mobility by stretching spinal joints. During this procedure, the patient lies on his or her back on an Intersegmental traction table which has rollers beneath its surface traveling slowly through the length of the patient’s spine.
  • Joint Mobilization: A precise movement applied by hand to a joint of the body. An adjustment loosens a joint to restore movement and optimize function.
  • Chiropractic Rehabilitation: Improves mobility, relieves pain, restores function, and limits or prevents disabilities of patients suffering from injury or disease. Restores, maintains, and promotes fitness and health.
  • Therapeutic Exercise: Develops strength and endurance, increases joint motion, range of motion, and flexibility and functional capacity.
In addition to the above, we offer attorney referrals (if requested), doctor referrals, and diagnostic imaging referrals for MRIs, CTs, and other tests. We believe in working closely with pain management doctors, neurologists, and orthopedic specialists to help you get back on your feet.
